Who's Ready For GTA 6!
Cops who remember your outfit, cash you can lose, 170+ animals and boxed copies with no disc. The GTA 6 details a lot of players still don't know, plus the latest official video.

Seven weeks. That's all that stands between us and Grand Theft Auto VI. After two delays, a Netflix premiere, a 14 page Game Informer cover story and more leaks than a Vice City yacht with a hole in it, Rockstar's return to Leonida is finally close enough to taste.
You've probably seen the trailers. You know about Jason and Lucia. But underneath the neon and palm trees, GTA 6 is quietly rebuilding almost every system the series is known for. Here's the stuff a lot of players still don't know, in plain English, with a clear line between what's confirmed and what's only been reported.

Watch the Latest: GTA VI — An Extended Look
This is the newest official video from Rockstar: a 27-minute look captured on PS5 that premiered on Netflix on August 27 before landing on YouTube. If you only watch one thing before launch, make it this.
🚔 The Cops Finally Have a Memory

In every GTA before this one, you could commit a crime, duck around a corner for 30 seconds and the entire police force forgot you existed. Not anymore.
The old wanted stars are now backed by a Heat system. Small icons under your stars show exactly what the police know about you: your clothes, your face, your car, your weapon. Lose the stars but keep driving the same car in the same shirt, and a patrol can recognize you and start the chase all over again.
To actually go clean, you have to deal with each piece of heat:
- Change your outfit. You can even keep spare clothes in your car.
- Ditch or swap the vehicle they saw you in.
- Hide your weapon or cover up with a mask or helmet.
- Get rid of camera evidence. Security cameras can capture you, and destroying that CCTV evidence is part of losing your heat.
- Split Jason and Lucia up. Two suspects are easier to spot together than apart.
The little detail most people miss: the stars themselves now tell you what's happening. Solid white means they can see you. Flashing means they're searching. Hollow stars mean a crime was reported but they don't have a description yet, so you might stroll right past an officer. Red means you got away but you're still inside the search zone. Also gone: cops showing up on your minimap. You'll have to actually look around.
The police are smarter too. Instead of charging straight at you, they set up perimeters around crime scenes and work to cut off your escape. Some fans are also expecting changing your hairstyle to help, but that one hasn't been spelled out by Rockstar.
💵 Cash in Your Pocket Is Now a Risk

This might be the biggest change to how GTA feels. Your money now lives in three places:
- Your bank account. Safe.
- Cash on you. Not safe. Die or get busted and you can lose it.
- Stolen goods. Jewelry, cars and other loot that's worth nothing until you sell it.
That means trips to the ATM actually matter. Hit a store, then deposit the cash before you push your luck. Stolen items have to go through a fence, a contact who buys hot goods at a discount, and better fences unlock as the story moves along.
And here's the twist: some story missions won't move forward until Jason and Lucia have saved up enough money. Rockstar is clearly fixing the old GTA 5 problem where you were a millionaire by the halfway point with nothing to spend it on.
Robberies are a lot more open, too. You can try to hold up almost any store you walk into, and you can choose to go loud or quiet, solo or as a duo. The police response scales with how messy you get. Zip ties to restrain hostages and human shields have also been reported as part of the toolkit.
🚗 Stealing a Car Takes More Than a Button Press

Grabbing a random car off the street is still very GTA, but high end rides now fight back. Game Informer's cover story confirmed that expensive cars can have security systems and GPS trackers, and you'll use an in game app called WAiNK to check what a car is worth and how risky it is before you take it.
Leaked materials go further, describing slim jims for older cars and an electronic immobilizer bypass for modern luxury cars, plus the option to rummage around for loose items. Treat those details as reported, not promised. Either way, the police remembering your car means a stolen ride gets "hot" fast, so your own car matters more. Think of it like Arthur's horse in Red Dead 2: it's your rolling home base.
About crawling: you may have seen clips of Jason crawling flat on the ground. That came from leaked early footage, and later reports say Rockstar cut the prone move. Don't count on it at launch.
🐊 170+ Animals, Red Dead Style

Rockstar brought its Red Dead Redemption 2 wildlife tech to Florida, er, Leonida. There are more than 170 species, including 60+ kinds of birds and 30+ land mammals, sorted into Discoverable, Rare and Legendary tiers. Animals even have a new fur system that reacts to rain and dirt.
The ocean is where it gets wild. Sharks, whales, rays, turtles and jellyfish each move in their own way, and some sea life shimmers or even glows. You can see it all for yourself through scuba diving, which is one of the confirmed side activities.
🏙️ A World Built to Walk Into

The map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5, but Rockstar keeps saying the real goal is density, not just size. That means far more buildings you can walk into, plus alleys, rooftops and back lots that actually feel lived in. Leonida is split into six regions: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park.
A few other things you might not have heard:
- Fast travel is a ride share. Instead of a loading screen, you can hail a ride through an in game app, and you might even get chatty passengers.
- You can doomscroll. Snapmatic, the game's parody social app, is full of posts to scroll through. You just can't post your own.
- Weather is local. Storms roll through one area while it's sunny across town, and yes, hurricanes are in.
- Your choices shape Jason and Lucia's relationship, from dates to how you handle their phone calls.
- There's plenty to do off the clock: base jumping, billiards, the gym, kayaking, mini-golf, jet skis, airboats, racing and even trips to the zoo.
📦 Buying the Box? There's No Disc Inside

This one has caught a lot of people off guard. The physical version of GTA 6 doesn't come with a disc. The box holds a download code that you redeem on your PlayStation or Xbox account, and then you download the whole game.
Why? Most likely to stop early copies from leaking out of stores before launch. The upside is that boxed copies hit shelves on November 12, so you can redeem the code and start pre-loading early. The downside: no installing from a disc, no lending it to a friend, and once the code is used, the box can't really be resold.
So, Who's Ready?
If even half of this works the way it sounds, GTA 6 won't just be bigger than GTA 5. It'll play differently. Smart cops who remember your face, cash you can actually lose, and a world dense enough to get lost in. Rockstar has had 13 years to get this right, and November 19 is when we find out.
What are you doing first when you land in Vice City? Robbing a store, hitting the beach or just getting lost? Let us know.
Details in this article come from Rockstar Games and its official trailers, plus reporting from Game Informer, IGN and other outlets. Anything marked "reported" hasn't been fully confirmed by Rockstar and could change before launch.
